It's no use, sir. If they were coming, they would've been here over half an hour ago.

Uh-uh.

I'm afraid we failed again tonight.

The flying saucer people are obviously on guard against the non-believer.

Yes, I think it was wrong to omit this reporter to come here tonight.

Hah, you don't even believe in them I suppose?

Oh, well, uh, they're very interesting.

If that's the best you can do, forget it. Hmm! The brainwaves of your cynical thoughts have gone up there to those ships!

Did you say brainwaves?

Mmhmm.

Oh now really, there's no such thing as brainwaves!

Look young lady, there's a lot you have to learn about many things besides brainwaves; strange and terrible things. Uh, what month is this?

What month? Why it's January.

Oh, middle of the winter, and how do you explain this heat wave? The newspapers are full of explanations, none of which make much sense. Aren't you worried about it yourself?

Yes.

Yes! Of course! Incomprehensible is one of the facts of existence in the solar system, and throughout intergalactic structure as well.

And now you're going to tell me I suppose that this poor old planet of ours is about to blow up?

I don't believe the Earth will explode, and yet I know that something terrible is going to happen soon... Maybe the saucer people can warn us what to expect. They could tell us so we could warn the world!

There's one, look! Up there!

[crowd chatters, surprised]

Let me see. It's a false alarm; a shooting star.

Hey, do you see another one over there?

Yes.

Oh, up there too!

Sorry to keep you waiting Shindo, I've been tied up over intelligence all evening.

Something up?

Yeah. Uh, you've heard of the small kingdom of Selgina, up in the Himalayas?

Mmmhmm.

Well the royal princess, um, Selina Salno is arriving tomorrow, incognito.

Uh-huh.

And intelligence asked me to assign a man to guard her.

You mean me?

Uh, her visit is strictly off the records, so don't be too obvious about it.

Why's she coming here? For what reason?

According to a top secret report, there's a plot to assassinate her. She's due to succeed her father soon, and if she's not around to do it, her country might go the other way.

Oh, I dunno, sounds pretty big. When did you say she was coming?

Her plane took off an hour ago.

Huh? Well when will it get here?

At dawn. Here's what she looks like.

Did you see the princess safely aboard the plane?

Yes, excellency.

And the bomb?

All set sir. You have my assurance the princess will never come back.

Mm, very well. You may go.

Well your royal highness, you will soon be safe now.

Oh Wu, I was looking at the stars, how beautiful they are.

Ah yes. But your highness, wouldn't you like to go to bed now?

Pretty soon Wu, but, could you bring me a drink please?

A drink? Course your highness, right away.

Stand up princess. Stand up! And leave this place... Leave this place... Faster, faster... Faster, quickly...

No, no come back! Your highness!!!

Kurobe Dam, Kurobe Dam. End of the line.

[welcoming greetings]

Hello, you're from the geological institute.

Yes, I'm Murai. How do you do?

I am Okan, how do you do sir?

Well what happened here?

Well sir, lately we've had quite a few meteorite showers around here.

Mmhmm.

This thing last night came from the west and fell beyond Mt. Jiradaki there. It was the biggest and brightest meteorite I ever saw.

Hm.

We're only lucky it didn't hit the dam.

Mmmhmm. What's the best way down there?

Here, right here sir.

Go around the mountain, huh?

That's the only way. The mountain winds here are death on helicopters, so there's only one way to get there, or walk. We'll take that trail down there right through the gorge. If we hurry, we can get there by sundown.

There it is! Hmm, that's funny.

Uh, what's the matter?

Well, I'm not sure. We were headed south east, right?

Well the sun's over there, must be south east, yeah?

Well this says we've been going north.

Ah, that's a piece of junk you got there!

Uh?

Wha-What the?

Hm.

Hey look, mine too. What does this mean?

Let's go!

Right!

Hey professor, there it is!

[crowd chatter, amazement]

Gosh!

Look at the size of that thing!

Oh boy!

Look at that, look at that thing!

Oh my goodness.

Alright, I think we'd better camp right here.

[crowd chatter, setting up camp]

There should be a spring over there.

Hey, look at that! The pick's going away!

[crowd chatter, bewilderment]

Hey chief, I was at the airport at dawn, the plane never got there.

She won't need any bodyguard now.

Why not?

An hour after she took off, plane blew up.

Uh? Blew up?

Yup.

The conspirators got to her anyway, huh?

I don't know.

Don't we have any leads?

Not one, we're in the dark.

I have a few ideas though.

Sad, pretty girl like that murdered for political reasons. Here you are.

[on tape recording]

"...and yet I know something terrible is going to happen soon... Maybe the saucer people can warn us what to expect. They could tell us so we could warn the world."

Naoko! Naoko! Come on girl, get going!

What's up?

A prophetess!

A prophetess?

Yeah. Exactly what we need for our new program, Mystery in the 20th Century, come on!

Where is she?

Central Park. Oh, here, a couple of rolls of tape, good enough?

Uh-huh.

Good people of Earth, I call your attention to the ever expanding universe. It is time for the people of Earth to awaken to their responsibilities, as one of the peoples of space!

Are you a boy or a girl?!

[crowd laughs]

Why don't you do a striptease for us?

[crowd laughs]

An obvious case of incipient megalomania!

No wonder we're having a heatwave this winter, instead of snow.

Let's have a game with this, huh?

Poor foolish people. The Earth, your planet, is on the brink of destruction, and yet, you refuse to take me seriously, or even to listen. Why won't you listen? Why?

Excuse me! Excuse me! I am here and I will listen to you.

[prophetess points to the sky]

What are you doing that for? That is, why do you point to the sky?

To say I come from the planet you call Mars.

Really here from Mars?

That girl's from Mars?!

I guess we can travel in space now, huh? You wanna go?

[crowd laughs]

Uh, you spoke of the destruction of Earth a little while ago, how will this destruction begin?

First, you'll hear the tragic accident in the Wasajin mountains.

Now, we've heard lots of reports like that, but nothing has happened yet. Our old friend Mt. Aso keeps smoking away as usual. No, no, nothing's going to happen here, and whether she's a Martian or not, her prophecies have no basis in fact. As a man of science, I assure you, her prophecies are absurd.

Are we ready to go?

In a few minutes.

Uh, look professor, there's something strange going on with that thing. The spectrometer reads about 300 degrees higher than before, and yet, the magnetisms follow off to nothing.

Mmm?

Let me have that.

I don't mind telling you professor I'm worried about this thing. Why don't we go back home while we can?

Are you serious? You wanna give up and opportunity like this? An object from outer space... You must be joking.

You know I know what you mean alright, it's a marvelous chance, but I'm worried about that thing, aren't you?

Look sir, I think it's getting bigger, isn't it? I wasn't so big before.

It's not a balloon, how could it swell out?

It's possible, we'll check it right away.

I'm home!

Welcome my son! Your sister just came in too.

Here's a paper. Oh, I see sis has a new boyfriend, huh?

Oh, you mean Professor Murai.

Professor? Ooh, an intellectual.

He's a very nice man.

Hello my darling brother.

Hi!

How were you today, huh?

Tell me, who's the new boyfriend?

Boyfriend?

Uh-huh, I wonder, is it him you really go for, or his new car?

Oh, what a way to talk about your own sister, and Mr. Murai wouldn't like that either.

Yes, he's a very nice man. He'd make a very good husband for you.

Huh?

[giggling]

Oh now look, believe me, it's not what either of you think.

He is nice.

Oh mother, Professor Murai, is a very interesting man. He's in charge of that search in that meteorite shower. He was telling me about it today. It's very strange, but he brought back some photographs. Look here.

Mystery in the 20th Century I suppose? Why must you always be thinking about business my dear?

I have to get a lot of stories for when the program runs on the air.

And anyway mother that's why-[unintelligible]

"On the national news scene tonight, we have a current report from the federal committee investigating-[unintelligible]

Oh, put it on Channel 7!

I wanna hear the news!

Oh, that's mother's favorite program.

It's amusing too, go on Shindo.

Hey, get off!

Do something to please your mother!

Ladies and gentlemen, the show you've been waiting for, What Are They Doing Now?

Good evening ladies and gentlemen and welcome to our show, What Are They Doing Now?

Uh, what he means is this is the show that brings back your favorite personalities for your entertai-

That's right!

Personalities, entertainers, and performers-

Who at one time or another have created public sensations, and we bring them in in response to requests from our nationwide audience.

Enough of that, let's get on with the show. Here are our first guests for tonight.

A couple of nice little boys!

Yes, bring 'em out.

Come on kids.

Ah, here they come now. A couple of fine little gentlemen.

Hello kids, welcome to the show! Come on, right over here.

That's fine, just like that. And how old are you?

Five!

Oh.

Oh! Five years old! Isn't that nice?

Yes, isn't it.

You're almost the same height, you know.

Cut it out will ya, you're on camera... Now listen, son-

Who would you like to see again? What's your favorite performer?

Mothra!

Mothra?

[crowd claps in amusement]

Mothra? Well now, that's a very difficult one, yes, really difficult.

You mean you can't do it?

Well no, I wouldn’t say that, but after all, a science fiction monster?

It's a fake!

[crowd claps again]

No children, we're not fakes, believe me.

Not very often anyhow.

Yes. However, tonight we're able to bring you by special request, the twin fairies from Mothra's island!

[crowd claps again]

Ah, here they are young men, here they are.

I believe you know these fairies very well, don't you son?

Yes! They're living with Mothra on the island of peace! Good evening, fairies.

[simultaneously] Good evening, everyone! Good evening to everybody!

Please tell me, how's, how's Mothra?

Thank you, but the old one died, you know.

What about the other one?

He's fine. Even though he's just a little baby, he keeps peace on the island.

[simultaneously] Would you like to see him?

Uh-huh.

[simultaneously] Alright, we'll sing his song for you, and maybe, if you close your eyes and think about him, you'll see Mothra.

Alright kids, close your eyes now.

[simultaneously] モスラ!

モスラ!

モスラ!

[over Call Happiness] Ladies and gentlemen of our great nationwide audience, while these exquisite fairies sing their own heavenly song in their own exotic dialect, we proudly present to you, the internationally famous beauty, Miss Annie Sukiyaki, who will translate the song for you. Here she is now folks, Miss Annie Sukiyaki.

[over Call Happiness] "Let us travel with the south wind, across the waves of the sunlit sea. There we shall find an island fair, where dwells the court of happiness. Why are you weeping, happiness? You must remember always to smile, for we shall call to you, happiness. No tear must fall, no smile must fade, in this island kingdom, happiness. The joy you give, we bring back to you, across the dark green sea. Why are you weeping, happiness? The wind and the mist will carry you near, when we shall call for you, happiness."

[zoom out of the TV framing device, the fairies sing Sacred Spring while Mothra appears on the screen]

Strange... the resemblance is amazing. But, according to the foreign ministry, they have a tradition in that country that the princess wears the royal bracelet at all times.

Well suppose she took it off for some reason. To avoid her assassins maybe? Yeah, sure, and that's why she's pretending to be a Martian!

Mmhmm.

Look, why don't we pick her up?

Uh-uh, on what charge? After all, it's no crime to practice demagoguery.

Well look, how bout if I got her? I'm worried about her.

Unofficially, and strictly on your own!

[Shindo nods]

You sent for me excellency?

Here, read this.

What is it sir?

Huh, what is this?

Newspaper from Japan. Now tell me, did that plane blow up?

Of course your highness, I swear it.

Then why is she in that picture?

I don't know... I don't know it's really her. There's only one way to identify her, the royal bracelet. And from this picture, we can't be sure who this woman is.

Mmm, very well, then go. Today, settle the matter.

Alright, and what if she is the princess.

If so you will kill her. If you should fail, you will be killed. Mmm.

I don't suppose anybody knows we're here, right?

Nah, nobody. I reserved a room at a quiet hotel.

Good. Where's the princess now? That is to say this Martian woman.

She hasn't been around lately, chief. Don't worry, she'll show up again sooner or later.

What about the police here, are they looking for her?

They've got problems enough. They aren't gonna bother with us.

Here it is.

Hey chief, I've found it. She's the princess.

What?

I found the bracelet.

Really? Where did you get it?

An old man was trying to sell it to an antique dealer.

Huh?

Alright.

Right in there.

Come in, sit down.

Alright, where did you get it?

Good heavens sir, I never stole it. I may be poor, but I'm an honest fisherman.

[clears throat] I'm sure of that, but answer the question. Where'd you get it?

I swapped her for it. I gave her my jumper, my pants and my cap.

Where?

We were out at sea. That's the truth sir.

What?

Ooh, it's the truth, I swear! On my way back from fishing, there she was, floating like a bit of cork on top of the water. I fished her out and brought her to shore.

And you didn't report her? Why not?

Well, what was I going to report? The minute we got ashore, she disappeared completely! That's the truth! I wonder whatever happened to her.

Uh-huh... Let's see if you recognize her from one of these pictures.

Oh, uh-uh, uh-uh. Hey, this one! She wore my jumper and my cap! That's her! And this one too! Yeah, yeah-yeah, that's her!

You'll have to stay here for a while.

Take him away.

Yes sir.

What for? I never stole it.

I'm sure you didn't, but we'll have to hold you for a statement.

Huh?

Come on.

Eh, uh?

Well chief, what do you think?

I don't know. Her plane exploded in the air, she was in it... How could she be the only one who survived?

Doesn't make much sense, does it?

I think that's pretty obvious, but why don't you?

I wish I knew the answer to that one. I asked a lot of people. Hey, you know, I found one man who understood it.

Yes, it is possible for someone to be saved from an exploding aircraft. If we understand the curvature of space, we know that the continuum surrounding any spherical body such as our world is composed of different dimensions. The force of the explosion created a gap between these dimensions, and fortunately for her, she fell into it.

Yes, any word of her? But she must be somewhere. Well what about the others, have they found anything? Too bad... Well I, suppose I'll keep looking. Alright. Oh Shindo, what are you doing, taking the day off?

No, but it looks like you are.

I'm not either, I'm trailing someone.

That's no job for a lady. How about having a drink?

Mmhm, alright. A quick one though, I'm meeting someone.

Oh, he's not here, huh?

Oh he'll be here, don't worry.

We'll have a drink together. You can pay and leave in ten minutes.

I won't pay.

Huh?

Oh, nothing. It was just a joke.

I see.

What's for you?

A Blue Mountain.

Bartender, make it two. Who're you trailing?

It's a secret, and you mustn’t ask me in vain because I won't tell you.

Oh, now look...

Hello. Am I late?

Why hello professor!

Are you busy?

Of course not. This is my brother Shindo.

I'm Murai from the geological institute.

How do you do?

You know, ever since he saw us in your car together, he thinks you're my sweetheart.

Naoko, shut up!

Well, I wish I were so lucky.

You look as though you were out climbing a mountain.

Well actually, I'm on my way back there.

Ah, the meteorite, huh?

Ah-huh.

Did you find out what it was?

Mmm. Superficially, it appears to be an ordinary rock, and yet, from time to time it manifests a strange magnetic property.

Mm hmm.

It's a mystery of the 20th century!

Mmm.

A Blue Mountain.

Yes!

And a bigger one than that girl who claims she comes from Mars.

Late yesterday, the Martian girl appeared at the crater of Mt. Aso, telling the sightseers to leave the Volcano immediately.

[over newscaster] The Martian girl again!

This is the center of the crater. The depth right here is over one thousand feet!

Are you ready Tamako? Here we go! Can I put my arm around you?

Yes.

Listen everybody. Please listen to me. Everybody please listen. You must all leave this Volcano immediately. You are not aware of the great danger you are in. Please go away now.

You mean the Volcano will erupt?

I'm not talking about eruption. In the crust beneath the crater here, there is the monster Rodan.

[crowd chatter] Rodan?! A monster?!

Oh I'm scared, come on, I wanna go home.

Ah, she's crazy. There's nothing to it, don't mind her. Hey! There goes my hat!

Oh, it's your new hat, dear.

Well, that's goodbye hat!

What are you gonna do? That was my present to you.

Ah, I can't go after it now, it's too far.

I know. (possibly Why not?)

Hey listen, I'll get your hat, uh, for a thousand yen, alright?

Too much!

Uh, five hundred?

Uh, uh-uh.

Alright, two hundred, that's as low as I go.

Two hundred? Alright, it's a deal!

Alright, good, thank you!

No, stop you foolish man. Come back immediately! Come back here!

You leave me alone you idiot! Mind your own business!

No stop, come back!

Ah, hey, hey help! The monster! Rodan! [screams]

[crowd chatter, Rodan]

ラドンだ!

Would you like to say a few words before leaving?

[simultaneously] Only that we thank you, and we're going back to our island with Mothra.

I appreciate? (there's a splice on that word) you, and if we call for you, will you come?

[simultaneously] Oh yes, of course! Gladly! But when we do return, don't make such a fuss over us.

What can you tell us about Rodan and Godzilla?

Maybe you know what they're about to do, with your telepathic powers?

[simultaneously] Telepathy is worthless for prophesying, we don't have anywhere of knowing that. However, they are both soon coming back. Goodbye now, and thanks a lot!

This ship must not sail. I warn you, it must not sail today.

There she is!

The Martian!

Captain, that Martian woman is on board.

What? That Martian? What is she doing?

She says we can't leave port.

Put her ashore at once! No one tells me how to run my ship.

Aye sir!

What do I have to do to make you understand the danger that you are in? You'll all die if the boat sails today.

Look here, why don't you come with me.

Why, who are you?

I am, a friend of yours.

Excuse me, out of the way please. Young lady, you'll have to leave the ship immediately, Captain's orders.

Wait a minute please. We were just leaving, weren't we? She's going with me. Come along, dear.

Hey Naoko, I'm coming too!

Professor, look, it's getting bigger again.

Yes, according to these figures it's bigger than it was before.

That's impossible, how could a meteorite grow?

Nevertheless, it's growing.

How's the magnetism? Any reaction?

Not in the last few hours. Seems dead.

Anyway, we ought to get out of here professor. There's nothing much more we can do.

Hmm.

Hey, look!

Ooh!

The magnetism's starting up! Get back to work.

Toyo Broadcasting!

Oh, good evening!

Is the usual room open?

No, I'm sorry, it's been rented. Uh, perhaps the one across the hall?

Uh, let me see, that's 386. Oh, alright.

You're doing a report on vagabonds now I see.

Why yes. Let's go, this way dear.

Here it is, come on dear. Go right in.

That's her.

Wasn't it?

Don't know. It's the one in the picture.

Why don't we kill her?

Why? There was no sign of recognition when she saw me. No why was that?

Hello? The editor. Huh? Hello ???, I'm here with your martian girl. No, really. Yes! She's right here with me in the hotel. Yes, that's right! Now, will you do me a favor? Bring some clothes for her. A whole outfit. Yes. Alright, goodbye. [to Selina] We'll stay here tonight, just the two of us.

Someone else is with us.

Huh? There's no one else in the room. We're alone now.

[simultaneously] Good evening miss!

I thought you were sailing today, weren't you?

[simultaneously] Ah-huh. But then when she spoke, we understood what her words meant.

What was that?

That boat mustn't sail.

Look, tell me why, can't you?

Uh? What's wrong with the boat?

The hour is passed.

Oh my. You look so nice. Mmm.

To do all that's possible, to warn the people of Earth about the dreadful calamities they face.

Oh but wait, you can speak to everyone in this whole country from right here and I can help you!

Yes, what is it? Shindo? Are you prying into my affairs? You wait right there, I'll be right down. Will you wait for me here? I'll only be gone a minute. [to Shindo] What's all this about? And hurry up, I'm very busy.

What did you do with her?

With who?

You know, with the princess.

Who? Are you sure? You're not teasing me...

Your highness, don't you recognize me?

Are you a Martian too?

Come on now, you don't have to pretend with me. You're Princess Selina Salno.

No, I am not of this earth. I am a Martian, and I do not wish to keep on speaking with you. Go at once.

Why are we waiting? Let's finish it up now.

Wait, we've made one mistake already. If she really is the princess, there's a way to make her admit it.

How does it feel? Say hello to the knife I killed your father with.

No Shindo, I found her, she belongs to me, I'm not going to let you kill my story!

Naoko, will you quit being a fool? This girl is the princess! And we've been looking all over the country for her, now let go!

No! No Shindo, give me that key or I'll call the police!

Oh you stupid, have you forgotten that I am the police?

No.

Well I don't want to have to arrest you!

Oh leave me alone! What will you do with her?

Just protect her and try to see that she can return to her homeland whenever it's safe. Now are you with me or not?

Well... I'm with you.

Alright your highness, what did you do with your bracelet?

A bracelet?

Yes. The royal bracelet. You wore it on your right arm, remember? On your right arm.

I am a Martian, yes, and yet...

Yet what? Go on.

Well I might have worn a bracelet.

Ah, you don't have a bracelet on your wrist.

I think that bracelets are worthless and silly. If I had one, I'd give it away immediately.

Is that what you did with the one you had?

Yes, I gave it to a poor fisherman on the seashore.

What happened?

The lights.

???, try towards the switch.

Wait, the door!

[simultaneously] Oh watch out, the killers are here!

Naoko!

What?

The alarm bell.

It's alright Naoko, turn on the light.

Why, it's those two little fairies again. Thank you for being so brave.

What are you saying?

What is she doing sitting over there Shindo? Were you sitting here in the dark reading all the time this was going on?

I am not of this earth.

Let's get her out of here Naoko. It's dangerous here.

Where'll you take her?

I want a good doctor to examine her. Come on.

Alright.

Alright, let's go princess. On your feet.

[crowd chatter, Godzilla]

Ah? Hey, get up everybody, I heard a noise.

Well what's a matter?

Outside quick, I hear a noise.

Out here, see what it is.

Look!

Follow me, come on. Follow me! This way.

Professor! Get back here! Hurry!

What is it? It's taking some kind of form.

Increase to 12, 15, 20. Ah-hah, good. Uh-huh.

What do you think, doctor? Can she be cured?

Huh? Cured? Well, there's nothing wrong with her. She's perfectly normal. Uh, you can shut down the machine now.

You say she's normal doctor? W-why does she keep saying she's a Martian? You mean, she really is a Martian?

I don't imagine so. We'll find out more when she talks.

Huh?

Yes, I have a new medicine. A new hypnotic drug.

Huh! Shindo!

Why does no one pay heed to my warning? The entire human race, will perish from the Earth. Where the monster Ghidrah passes, only flaming ruins are left.

Ghidrah?

Centuries ago, the monster appeared in the skies of Mars. Within a month, the culture of Mars had been wiped out completely. Civilization on my planet had reached a state of development which you people will not achieve for a long time. Centuries, at least. Today, because of the space monster, it is a dead world. Dead and unpopulated.

Would be a bad situation if that creature came here to Earth.

It's worse. Because he's arrived.

Attention! Attention all citizens! The space monster discovered in Kurobe gorge last night, has been identified. It is Ghidrah. All proper measures are being taken to render him harmless, however, in the interest of public safety, the city must be evacuated at once!

[undubbed crowd chatter]

Hehehe, well don't worry, and rest quietly.

Attention! Attention! Godzilla and Rodan are heading this way! Evacuate at once! Godzilla and Rodan are heading this way! Evacuate at once!

[crowd chatter, Godzilla and Rodan]

Godzilla!

Godzilla!

And Rodan too!

Dr. Murai has told us how this dreadful monster, this calamity which befell our nation grew, right before his very eyes. In the recent past, we have had Godzilla, and Rodan, and now Ghidrah. What will the government do now? How will it deal with this new crisis? The people want to know and they want to know now, so I call upon the ministry of defense, the minister of the interior for a serious and responsible answer to this question.

General Wado?

The ministry of home defense maintaining a very close watch, on the movements of these monsters, both Godzilla and Rodan. As for this new one, Ghidrah, we are working on a new tactical approach, to this problem. As soon as we finalize this new approach, we will of course, implement it without delay.

The ministry of defense is making excuses!

What are these plans you're developing? We want to know how you propose to destroy these monsters?

Well General?

May I remind you, this problem is not one we face alone. The entire world is watching us. We cannot, assume responsibility, for authorizing the deployment and use of atomic weapons. Gentlemen, we need whatever help we are able to obtain. In this case, it makes no difference, where we finally get that help from.

If you please, I have brought some people here who I believe might help us. In the words of the General, it makes no difference where we get the help from, so I ask your permission Mr. Chairman, may I bring them in?

Ah-hah, of course.

Hey, that's the one who-

Shut up!

May I present, miss Naoko Shindo of Toyo Broadcasting, and here General, we have the world famous twin fairies of Infant Island.

Well, this is quite a surprise, you didn't go back home after all.

[simultaneously] That's right, we stayed with the prophetess instead!

What prophetess? Ah, that Martian girl. What happened to her, where is she?

We left her in the clinic with Dr. Tsukamoto.

So, that's where we'll find her.

Yeah.

As you know, Mothra and Godzilla once had a fight, and as all of us here know, Godzilla lost that fight. I think Mothra might, help us in this fight with Ghidrah if the fairies asked him for us. That's all.

What do you say, would you do it?

Do you mean no?

[simultaneously] Oh, but, Mothra's only a little caterpillar now, I don't think he can beat Ghidrah.

Then, he won't be able to defend your peaceful island from Ghidrah either.

[simultaneously] Uh-huh. That's what I'm worrying about. But...

But what? Tell me, what were you going to say?

[simultaneously] There's a way that might work.

What way? Go on, tell us.

[simultaneously] If Mothra, Rodan, and Godzilla all cooperate! Well, if they all got together some way, they might be able to overcome Ghidrah.

Yes but, who could persuade them to cooperate?

[simultaneously] Mothra might. If we ask him, he will.

Ah-hah. Ah.

Hmm.

[simultaneously] Oh I hope that Mothra can make them both agree to work together, or it'll be the end.

Ghidrah! It's Ghidrah! He's coming! It's Ghidrah! He's coming!

This seems to be the only solution open to us! Call Mothra! Call him right away!

Please, call Mothra, will you?

[simultaneously] モスラ!

モスラ!

モスラ!

Doctor, how is she? Is that the effect of the hypnotic drug?

Uh-huh.

Uh, will you draw the curtain please? I won't need you now. You'd better leave the area. Well, let's see. Maybe we'll find out who she really is. You are in a deep sleep, but your brain is awake, isn't it? Now then, who are you really?

I... I am a Martian...

Yes of course, but then, uh, there aren't very many of you Martians here on the Earth. How did you come here?

A certain few Martians who, escaped to Earth on the day Mars died.

How long ago?

Oh, several millennia.

Three-thousand years? And you've been living here ever since then?

Of course not, not one of them are alive. Those were our ancestors who reached Earth. As they gradually became Earthlings, their highly developed minds degenerated, and only one instinct remained as a legacy from them.

Instinct? For what?

Power to tell what the future holds.

But, doctor.

Huh?

Do you believe still that this poor girl is a princess?

Of course I do Doctor, I know she is!

Well, I suppose we could try shock treatment.

Shock treatment?

Uh-huh.

Attention all persons! Evacuate the area immediately! Godzilla and Rodan are coming this way!

What do we do now?

We found her at last, carry out our orders.

Godzilla and Rodan are coming this way! Attention! Attention! All persons evacuate area immediately!

Is it safe to remain here Doctor?

We must remain here, we can't stop the process now.

Look, go in the next room and increase the voltage to 500.

Alright.

No more than 500, it would kill her.

I understand.

What's goin' on?

I'm going to let them do the job for us.

3,000 volts?

Why not? The minute he throws that switch...

Shindo, check those connections again.

Ah-hah.

[crowd chatter, undubbed, Godzilla and Rodan]

Everything checks Doctor.

Good, let's start.

You set the voltage at 500?

Right Doctor.

What the?

Power's gone. Let me check it.

Very good.

Watch out Doctor, the killers are here!

We're in time I hope.

Oh yes.

What was that? You stay here Naoko.

I will.

Joe(? Or ), get around to the front door!

Yeah!

Come on, let's get out of here.

It's all cleared out now, bring her out.

How's the girl?

Thank you, thank you. She's alright.

Here, lend her help.

Hurry! Call the police!

Quick!

Halt! Come back here you! Halt! Halt or I'll shoot!

Oh, Shindo!

Naoko, you fool! What are you doing here?

Mothra's coming to help.

Really?

What are you standing there for? Come help us.

Yes sir! Yes sir.

Put her in gently.

Hurry up, get in!

Oh Doctor, is there anyone left at your clinic?

No, everyone is out, and my staff too.

Hey, didn't you say Mothra's coming?

Uh-huh.

Well what's he gonna do?

They're hoping he can fight Ghidrah.

Escape from here. Death and destruction are coming soon to this place.

Hey, at the clinic, what did you find out about her?

Only that she's a Martian.

[simultaneously] Stop the car! Mothra's coming, he's near by!

Who is that?

It's the fairies talking. They said stop the car, Mothra is here.

Where?

On the other side of this hill.

Come this way, there's a path here.

Will you carry this Shindo, it's heavy.

Of course.

Here, hold this.

Good, Good heavens, it looks like they're having a conversation! Oh, why Shindo, what do you think they're saying to each other?

Huh? How would I know? Don't expect me to understand monster talk.

Hey, the fairies do.

What's he saying?

[simultaneously] He's trying to persuade them, but he's having trouble. They won't agree. He's saying, "All three of us, must fight together, against this new monster to save the Earth."

And what is Rodan saying now?

He says, it's none of their business if the Earth parishes, and Godzilla, agrees with him. Now Rodan says he'll just fly away, and Godzilla says, they have no reason to try and save mankind. Eh, they've always had trouble with men, and men hate them. And Rodan says "Yes, he's right.", but Mothra is still trying.

Move over, get out of the way!

Oh, don't push me, who are you, you selfish dog!

All of you down!

It's Ghidrah!

The monster's there!

Come back!

[simultaneously] Oh, it looks like it's no use. Godzilla and Rodan, want to fight each other. There are no apologies from each other. They're both so bullheaded! But Mothra is still trying!

Ah, these monsters are as stupid as human beings!

Mmm.

Hey, you better come with us! It's only way open!

Huh? What'd you say?

The road is block up there! Is landslide! Only way out of here is this path! You go follow us! Hey come-a on then! Hurry up, let's go! Keep moving!

Oh fairies, are the monsters still arguing?

[simultaneously] Yes, and Mothra's still talking.

 Yes?

Ah Shindo, we'd better move up higher.

Alright.

Hully up! Hully up! C'mon, keep moving real fast!(?)

Alright, this is good enough. Let the fairies tell us what they're saying now. Are they going to fight Ghidrah? Are they? Do they agree?

[simultaneously] Not yet. Mothra says, "The Earth belongs to them as much as it does to man." Ooh Godzilla, what terrible language! Mothra says it's our duty to protect the Earth, and is pleading with them. But they refuse to cooperate at all.

What will Mothra do now?

[simultaneously] Mothra's going to fight Ghidrah without them.

What?! That's impossible!

Godzilla!

Where is she?

Who?

Who?

The princess!

Oh What?

Look around!

We must find her!

Right.

And soon!

Oh, the fairies!

I'll look for her down here.

Fire! The whole valley's on fire!

Almighty deity, creator of the universe, look upon this planet and save it from destruction! O lord save this planet from the calamity which threatens it!

Princess? Princess, no! Get down! Princess! Princess! Princess!!! Princess. Princess, be quiet.

Why I know him! Traitor! Malness, why are you shooting at me?! Traitor!

You've regained your senses, Princess!

Who are you, where am I?

I'm a policeman, and I'm trying to keep you alive prince- Get behind me!

What's that?

Oh, it's my brother's raincoat!

Are you sure?

He must've fallen down there!

Shindo!

Are you there? Shindo!

Hello!

Run back up to the hut, halfway up the hill. Bring a rope!

Alright, away! Easy now!

Let's all go up there!

The roads are all blocked!

Off the road!

Let me through, let me through! Please let me through.

Doctor, what's happening to us? Are we all gonna die here?!

Calm down my good man, it's not in our hands now.

We're almost to the top.

Oh, my village! My home is gone!

Oh, rocks are falling!

[crowd chatter, the Earth monsters' victory]

He's going away!

Yay! We're saved, we're saved!

Mothra! Rodan!

Godzilla and Mothra have won! We're free!

Now Princess, do you have a few more words to say before you leave?

Oh yes. I wonder, is it really true I called myself a Martian?

Oh yes. And although you were perfectly normal in all respects, you had an instinct for telling the future. An instinct that no Earth man possess.

Is that right? What brought me back to normal then?

It was shock. A mere shock. When the bullet grazed you here, it brought you back to us.

How very interesting. But, do you think one day I might regain that Martian instinct for prophesy?

I'm afraid the answer to your question, is beyond, our present intellectual development.

I thank you so much Shindo. I thank you for saving my life three times at least.

And you know?

Mm-hm. Once at the hotel, the clinic was two, and the mountain was three.

But do you, do you remember what happened then?

Well, uh, I'm not quite sure about most of it, just that... just that I owe you my life Shindo.

Well, I... I.

And, I want you to know, I will never forget you.

Nor are you. I wish you happiness.

Thank you.

Ah Naoko, thank you for everything.

It was nothing.

Oh yes.

[simultaneously] Goodbye Godzilla, goodbye Rodan. We're going back to Infant Island! Goodbye! Goodbye everybody!

THE END
